LONE STAR NIL’s STUDENT-ATHLETE REGISTRATION OPENS ON OCT. 4
Exclusive Name, Image and Likeness opportunity begins for in-state college athletes
FRISCO, Texas – Offering its exclusive name, image and likeness opportunity for homegrown Texan student-athletes, LONE STAR NIL, LLC™ has opened its registration portal current enrollees at Texas universities and colleges. In-state student-athletes participating on varsity teams at any of the state’s 116 institutions of higher education can register for LONE STAR NIL free of charge at www.LoneStarNIL.com or through this direct link.
Previously announced in June, LONE STAR NIL provides the nation’s first statewide program for name, image and likeness, focusing on Texas-based students enrolling at in-state institutions and developing NIL opportunities with the state’s robust business community. Registrants are required to provide basic information before completing an expanded questionnaire. Once student-athletes enter the system, LONE STAR NIL will explore and work to develop name, image and likeness matches with local, regional and statewide companies.
“We are excited to officially open LONE STAR NIL’s registration portal,” founding CEO Tom Burnett said. “Since our initial announcement earlier this summer, we’ve been enthused with our continuous planning with strategic advisors, beneficial engagements with college athletes, coaches and administrators, and insightful review with business leaders.”
Instead of having a competitive interest from an athletics standpoint, LONE STAR NIL is instead focused on overall Texan success. The program directly connects student-athletes to in-state companies, large and small, and does not seek NIL deals from individual institutional boosters and supporters.
In tandem with arranging permissible financial activity, LONE STAR NIL offers comprehensive educational support and actively seeks opportunities for professional, community service and charitable activity for student-athletes.
“A key to our program, beyond the core aspect of NIL activity and the obvious financial benefits, is that we are very focused on the holistic opportunities that all college students should have,” Burnett, a former Division I conference commissioner and chair of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Committee, added. “By connecting professional development, community and charitable service into our name, image and likeness program, beyond the transactions central to NIL, we can ensure that students continue developing in the well-round manner that leads to lifelong success, both personally and professionally, likely as productive members of the future Texas workforce.”
LONE STAR NIL’s program follows Texas state law and NCAA guidelines, and all NIL activity will be reviewed in advance by officials at a participating student-athlete’s campus. At this time, high school students in Texas cannot participate in NIL activity, and must wait until official college enrollment. Enrolled college athletes from out-of-state that attend Texas institutions, or those Texas-based students enrolled out-of-state, do not qualify for LONE STAR NIL’s program. Texan students transferring back home from outside the state can register for LONE STAR NIL.

NATION'S FIRST-EVER STATEWIDE NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS PROGRAM LAUNCHES IN TEXAS
LONE STAR NIL’s STUDENT-ATHLETE REGISTRATION OPENS
Exclusively serving Texas-based students, LONE STAR NIL program
connects student-athletes with state businesses, charities, and communities for distinctive NIL opportunities.
FRISCO, Texas, June 6 , 2023 – LONE STAR NIL, LLC™ today announced its official launch as a first-of-its-kind name, image and likeness (NIL) program established exclusively for Texas-based collegiate student-athletes enrolled at in-state universities and colleges. The launch represents the nation’s first-ever independent NIL program with a single statewide focus since collegiate NIL activity began in 2021. LONE STAR NIL is owned by Southwest Sports Partners, LLC, an athletics consulting and events services agency based in Frisco, Texas.
LONE STAR NIL encourages the enrollment, retention and graduation of homegrown academic and athletic talent at 116 Texas institutions of higher learning, ranging from NCAA Division I programs to the state’s numerous community colleges. Once enrolled, regardless of in-state school choice, Texas-based student-athletes are eligible to register for the new fully independent, statewide NIL program. By operating separately from collegiate institutions and athletic departments with zero connection to campus booster groups, LONE STAR NIL can deliver on its primary focus of developing direct relationships between student-athletes and Texas-based companies and charitable organizations.
“While name, image and likeness opportunities have increased across the college sports landscape, most Texas student-athletes remain underserved by limited NIL options,” said Tom Burnett, current president and CEO of Southwest Sports Partners and former NCAA Division 1 conference commissioner. “We know many local students and parents want a better understanding of NIL, and at the same time, it’s clear that Texas businesses of all sizes could potentially benefit from getting more actively engaged in this exciting space. So, that’s where LONE STAR NIL comes in -- providing a distinctive, first-of-its-kind program with extensive NIL opportunities, vital educational efforts, and meaningful corporate and community engagement, all of which will lead to rewarding NIL outcomes across the state.”
In addition to engaging with collegiate student-athletes, LONE STAR NIL is actively pursuing business, education and technology partnerships ahead of the fall 2023 semester. The company is organizing and managing a wide variety of NIL activities throughout Texas at the local, regional and state levels. This includes business and product endorsements, social media activations, personal appearances and autograph sessions, merchandising, athletic camps and high-level training, charitable and community service, and professional business internships and fellowships, among other opportunities.
Over the long term, by encouraging students to stay in Texas with a unique program focused only on in-state institutions, LONE STAR NIL also hopes to play a role in populating and continually elevating the future Texas workforce with high-achieving student-athletes poised for lifelong personal and professional success.
